Succinct Summary
- Brian, from Centerwell, came to do an evaluation to see if Mom should continue to get therapy.
- The answer is yes because of the improvement!
- Brian will suggest to continue speech therapy because Mom said she's been doing the exercises.
- I don't know if that's true, but it was the right answer. :)
- Mom stood up, multiple times, with very little help from Brian.
- Mom actually stood on her own for about two minutes at a time, and ended up with a total of about five minutes standing.
- Need to make sure she does speech therapy exercises every day.
- Need to make sure she stands every hour or two every day.
For the Caregivers
I added the new tasks to the whiteboard:
Brian had Mom stand and sit about 5-10 times. And twice she stood for about two minutes straight,
The therapist did recommend getting this. He said it will make transfers easier, but more importantly, if it's right there, having Mom get up every hour will be easier and more accessible. The goal is to give her very little help because she can try to pull herself up.
Mom can use this to practice standing every hour or two. If we don't get it, then she can use the end of the bed again, like in the video.
This is the speech therapy packet that she should be doing every day. I will do this with her tonight.
For Everyone Else
Brian said he's seen incredible improvement from when he was here in March. The lack of motivation Mom had back then had Brian thinking she wouldn't be at this point. He was especially impressed that her right leg held up while standing. Brian is moving away, but he said Mark will be back and he's recommending to continue therapy.
Mom was very proud of herself, and I was as well! Oh, and one of the times Mom stood up, it was on a scale and she weighed 130 pounds! She was excited about that. When I asked her if it was ok to share her weight, she immediately said yes!
This was Brian watching Jonalyn transfer Mom to the wheelchair.
